Stretching, when and how?

I read a lot of things about stretching and Iquickly notice that there is a kind of « debate » about it … First group who are pro stretching (better recovery & more flexibility) and the other, those who do not recommend (stretching pollute performance) etc.

My experience is this one: in January, I started my workouts three month program to be ready for the Half Marathon of Paris. I didn’t know about the importance of stretching and so… I didn’t do it!

Results three months later: Two knees tendinitis and Fascia Lata tendinitis. My osteopath said: I do not stretch enough!

Since I bring special attention to stretching, and add stretching into my training schedule.

What does the stretching sessions bring me?

1- Flexibility. After workouts (running or muscle building), the muscles and tendons are under tension. Stretching really give me flexibility, allow muscles to recover their lengths.

2- Relaxation. These sessions are a good way to relieve stress, release tension.

3- Finally, they actually prevent injury, allow a better joint mobility. Since I add the stretching sessions to my training schedule, I have no tensions or knee pain.
